Meet Our September Member of the Month: Sandra Towne
At Pilates Collective, we believe in celebrating the individuals who bring life and energy into our community. This September, we’re thrilled to spotlight Sandra Towne as our Member of the Month. Sandra’s dedication to her Pilates practice and her vibrant spirit make her a cherished member of our studio.
A Journey of Strength and Flexibility
Sandra’s Pilates journey began when she was searching for relief from tight, stiff muscles and fascia. “My physical therapist suggested Pilates or Yoga, and my first several classes were private with the amazing Melody,” Sandra recalls. What started as a recommendation quickly turned into a passion that has brought significant changes to her life. While there isn’t one particular moment that stands out, Sandra feels a “wonderfully satisfying build-up of strength and flexibility” as she continues to progress in her practice.
The Impact Beyond Fitness
Pilates has done more than just enhance Sandra’s physical well-being. It has introduced her to new friends and lifted her spirits. “I have made lovely new friends and my spirits are lifted,” she shares. The sense of community and support she’s found within the studio is something she cherishes deeply: “The Pilates community and support is amazing!”
Beyond the studio, Sandra has found that Pilates helps her stay consistent and motivated. “I love the classes and for me, having a place to go outside of my home and with capable instructors keeps me on track and consistent. Also, I feel so good after every class I want more,” Sandra explains. It’s this positive reinforcement that keeps her coming back, time and time again.
Advice for Newcomers
For anyone considering starting Pilates, Sandra offers thoughtful advice: “Pilates is so much about using your muscles correctly and often using muscles you forgot you have. So go slow, concentrate on doing the movements correctly, be consistent with your classes, and you will feel your body change!” Her words reflect her own journey and the gradual, yet profound, transformation Pilates has brought to her life.
Living Deliberately, with Gratitude and an Open Heart
Sandra’s guiding philosophy is to “live my life deliberately, express gratitude, and keep my heart open.” This principle influences not only her approach to Pilates but also how she navigates life. Whether she’s tending to her garden, knitting, traveling, or enjoying walks on the beach, Sandra’s mindful approach shines through.
A Life Full of Adventure
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised in Reno, Nevada, Sandra’s childhood was filled with outdoor adventures and travel. One of her happiest memories includes hot summer days spent swimming in the Carson River with her family. Now retired, Sandra continues to enjoy her hobbies, which include gardening and knitting. She also shares her home with Jazzi, her “sweet, loving, rambunctious, smart-as-a-whip” miniature Australian Shepherd.
A Life-Changing Experience
When asked to describe her Pilates Collective experience in one word, Sandra responded with “life-changing!”—though she admits, “oops, that’s two words.” This impact is evident in how Pilates has helped her overcome challenges, both physically and mentally. “I am so much stronger and much more flexible. My tight fascia and muscles have improved significantly!” she proudly shares.
Sandra Towne’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of Pilates, and we’re honored to have her as a part of our Pilates Collective family. Her enthusiasm, positivity, and commitment are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you, Sandra, for being such a vital part of our community!
